Globalization - Its Light and ShadowProject funded by Sophia University (2010-2011)
This is a report on the Project “Globalization - Its Light and Shadows—A Multiple Approach from Economics, Economic Sociology, and Urban Sociology” – A three year research grant (2009-2011) from Sophia University. The whole project was organized and carried out by three scholars – Toshiaki Hirai, who has been interested in transformation/transmutation of social philosophy, macroeconomics, economic policy and the global economy over these three decades; Linda Grove, who has studied modern development of China and its attendant socio-economic problems; and Noriko Hataya, who studies the influence of globalization on Latin American societies, with special focus on Colombia.
The report is based on the papers read at two international conferences held in order to promote this project: the first, at the University of Graz, Austria (January 29 and 30, 2010) and the second at Sophia University (October 22 and 23, 2011). The papers collected in this report are confined only to those for which we have received permission from the contributors.
